NAS & MiniDLNA

NAS stands for Network Attached Storage and is a convenient way to store all your digital images, music and videos on a server on your local network. A BPi-M5 is ideal tool for this together with a USB SSD hard drive.

MiniDLNA is ".. server software with the aim of being fully compliant with DLNA/UPnP clients. The MiniDNLA daemon serves media files (music, pictures, and video) to clients on a network. Example clients include applications such as totem and xbmc, and devices such as portable media players, smartphones, and televisions. MiniDLNA is a simple but has fewer features. It does not have a web interface for administration and must be configured by editing a text file..

What this means is that you can store all your images, music files and videos on a server, in my case the BPi-M5, to play back on any DLNA compliant device such as TV, music amplifier, mobile device on your local network.

Gone are the days of reaching for a CD, a vinyl or a tape, all your files are stored on the network NAS for instant recovery.
I have all my music collection in high quality FLAC (lossless) format.
